New York City June Calendar of Unique and Charitable Events |
|
|
For New Yorkers, Memorial Day is traditionally the beginning of summer. With the lifting of so many covid restrictions and summer officially starting, there is a renewed energy here in our little island of bliss! As widely reported in national media, Manhattan is at the beginning of what promises to be an explosive sellers' market. This is partially due to lower inventory, low interest rates and robust buyer demand ... but it is also due to New Yorkers' ability to re-emerge from whatever has temporarily knocked them down. Overall, New York City is presently a relative bargain compared to other top international markets. Reviewing this month's Calendar of Charitable and Unique Events, it is clear that our city continues to re-awaken .... walking the city streets now, one can easily feel a vibrancy similar to the Roaring Twenties! We are anticipating this heightened energy will translate towards increased sales and higher prices. The window for securing the best deals is quickly closing ... but there are opportunities still remaining for those who want to own a piece of the Big Apple.
Warm regards to all –
Kevin
Kevin

Flashback to 1917, New York City. A line of people stretches for blocks outside of Reisenweber's Cafe at Columbus Circle, all hoping to hear and dance to the tunes of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, who are showcasing a new music style straight from New Orleans. From Harlem's mob-run night clubs in the 1920s, to the narrow basement joints lining 52nd Street in the 1930s and '40s, to the downtown Greenwich Village spots in the 1940s and '50s, that one concert would lead New York City to eventually become the undisputed Jazz Capital of America. This is the story of the music, musicians, and venues that defined New York's pioneering era of jazz. |

The Meatpacking District: A History of NYC's Meat Purveyors |
While today's Meatpacking District is mostly known for chic restaurants, avant-garde art galleries, and the Whitney Museum of Art, it had been New York's meatpacking hub for over a century. At its height, the neighborhood was home to around 250 meat purveyors that helped put America's finest meat on the tables of New York's restaurants — from small mom & pop eateries to America's top steakhouses like Delmonico's and Peter Luger. But what exactly did these companies do, and how did they evolve from purveyors of meat to local eateries into exporters of meat throughout the world? It's time to explore one of the most important industries in New York City history, from one family of butchers who called the neighborhood home for over seven decades. |

Bread for the World Institute |
Bread for the World is a collective Christian voice urging our nation’s decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad.
By changing policies, programs, and conditions that allow hunger and poverty to persist, we provide help and opportunity at home and far beyond where we live.
We can end hunger in our time. But churches and charities can’t do it all. Our government must also do its part.
With the stroke of a pen, policies are made that redirect millions of dollars and affect millions of lives.
By making our voices heard in Congress, we make our nation’s laws fairer and more compassionate. We leverage big changes for people in our country and around the world who struggle with hunger. |
