Wednesday, November 1 | 2:30 - 3:00pm | Hillwood Museum and Gardens
Gardener's Focus Tour: Specialty Mums

Marjorie Post was particularly fond of chrysanthemums, and Hillwood Museum grows over 50 different varieties - from spoon and spider, to football and anemone - in an array of gorgeous fall colors. Join Jarrett Currin, greenhouse grower, to learn how Hillwood continues the 55 year tradition of propogating mums for fresh cut flowers in the weekly arrangements.
November 4 | 2pm - 6pm | Adams Morgan, DC (various locations)
Rescheduled: Adams Morgan PorchFest

Because of last months rain, this has been postponed to November 4. This beloved tradition will showcase over 100 bands, featuring classic rock, go-go, rap, reggae, blue grass, classical, and pop. Twenty porches, business patios, parks, and the closed 18th Street will become staging for the day. Event wristbands are free, and provide attendees with dozens of discounts at various Adams Morgan businesses. Read more below:

DC Beer Festival

The DC Beer Festival returns to Nationals Park, bringing together dozens of craft breweries that will feature spring seasonal beers, food trucks, dueling pianos, cover bands, DJ's, and so much more. Admission will include unlimited tastings, with food sold separately. Please note that this event is 21+.

Film Screening: I Remember Better when I Paint

This 2009 film aims to reframe our attitudes towards dementia, and is inspired by co-director Berna Huebner's mother, a painter in her nineties who lived with dementia and experienced a transformation when she started painting again, reawakening a sense of personality, identity, and dignity. Narrated by Olivia de Havilland, the film shows how creative therapies can bypass damaged parts of the brain. It shows older adults living with Alzheimer's making, viewing, and connecting to art in the Louvre, the Art Institute of Chicago, and The Phillips Collection. Following the screening, there will be a discussion and Q&A. Learn more below:

Capital Food Fight

DC Central Kitchen's biggest annual fundraiser returns to the Anthem for its 19th edition, with chefs José Andres and Spike Mendelsohn back as celebrity hosts. This event will feature an all-star cast of celebrity judges, dozens of tasting tables from your favorite restaurants, and a raucous showdown between four local culinary stars as they face off in a head-to-head culinary challenge on stage featuring a spotlighted ingredient. Each dish will be judged by a panel of culinary icons, and all proceeds go to support DC Central Kitchen.

Veterans Day Concert at The National Cathedral

This Veterans Day, join Cathedral musicians and "The President's Own" United States Marine Chamber Orchestra for an afternoon of popular music from the American Civil War, World War I and II, Korean War, and Vietnam War eras, along with other patriotic and celebratory favorites. You can livestream or watch the event live (no tickets necessary). Learn more below:

DC Downtown Holiday Market

Now in it's 19th year, the Downtown Holiday Market will continue to provide a holiday spark to the city. The spacious, open-air village is free and will feature over 70 exhibitors. Visitors can expect a range of family friendly offerings including emerging artisan markets, festive decor and lights, holiday music, and a vast array of food and drink vendors. Learn more below:

The Wharf Ice Rink

Experience The Wharf Ice Rink—DC’s only over-water ice skating rink. From November through February, come to Transit Pier right outside The Anthem and lace up your skates—bring your own or rent some rink-side—to glide over the ice and enjoy amazing views of the water and monuments. While you’re here, treat yourself to some hot beverages and seasonal specialties at our nearby restaurants and shops.

Ballet West: The Nutcracker

Be swept away in a flurry of holiday magic as Ballet West presents America's first and longest-running Nutcracker. Enter Clara's dream world for the first (or hundredth!) time with this whimsical tale of a prince and evil mouse king. Grand sets and fantastical costumes alongside Tchaikovsky's cherished score and Willam Christensen's dazzling choreography combine for a glittering visual spectacle.

101st National Christmas Tree Lighting

Join the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation as they usher in the second century of the National Christmas Tree lighting. The musical guests for this year have not been announced yet. Last year's event was hosted by LL Cool J and included musical guests Shania Twain, Joss Stone, Andy Grammer, and Gloria Estefan. The ticket lottery for this event will open to the public on November 1.
Washington DC Nonprofit of the Month - November

DC Central Kitchen

Founded in 1989, DC Central Kitchen (DCCK) works to combat hunger and poverty through training and job creation. It provides hands-on culinary training for individuals facing high barriers to employment, while creating living wage jobs and bringing nutritious, dignified food where it is most needed. Their social ventures include serving scratch-cooked, farm-to-school meals in DC schools, delivering fresh, affordable produce to corner stores in neighborhoods that lack supermarkets, and operating fast-casual cafes throughout the city.
